Joohyun looks down from her reflection in the mirror to see eight ducklings floating around in her sink. Her eyes widen and she runs to the other side of the room.

“There are ducklings in my sink!” she screams, though she knows at the bottom of her heart that there really isn’t anyone that can hear her.

“Of course there are. Are you blind, lady?” one of the ducklings say.

Joohyun decides to skip class that day.

**“Ducklings don’t talk,” Joohyun says, crouched beside the small pool that she has filled up with water, and now the ducklings happily swim around in. Over the course of the day, Joohyun learns all of the duckling’s names. Taeyeon and Jessica are the first; and she learns that they have a tendency to stay together often, mainly because Jessica is ‘annoying’ and Taeyeon has to make sure that she isn’t doing something that she shouldn’t be doing. Jessica finds this to be annoying, too, and nibbles at her wings sometimes to get her to stop ( ... )

Joohyun likes these moments, where Jinwoon and Joohyun hide in her room, getting care of the little baby ducks. At first, it had been for a few hours before Jinwoon had to rush home; now it was until all of them had fallen asleep. Sometimes, he would stay for longer, and they would talk until it was getting really late. this is so darling, anon. it feels like a fable, and the duck thing worked really well as an inciting factor between jinwoon and seohyun. nice work!

Maybe she was in love with Yundae back then, maybe she wasn't. Fourteen was ambiguous, somewhere between puppy love and the real thing. You had to remember it yourself, where you fell on the scale. Sooyoung couldn't. All she felt for Yundae anymore was guilt ( ... )
