It really WAS about mom and her kid. And as such, sweet. It was interesting trying to think how his mom (ANY normal mom) would feel about Vampire Eric with her son.

I love Carsten's mum. She's just like my mum: Overly protective, but open-minded when you work with her guidelines instead of against them.

And you're right, that's not the usual tone, but the idea of Carsten's mom and this general conversation has been in the back of my mind for ages. It's really fun to think of "real life" inside the vampire construct -- what WOULD you do if you found out your son was hooking up with a vampire? Even if you considered yourself liberal and pro-vampire?

It took me forever to get Godric and Carsten in bed together, because Carsten kept freaking out and running away...

Carsten's mother is fantastic - going toe to toe with Eric Northman and not losing your shit? Heck yea, mom. I loved the way Eric plays it out with her and how Carsten squirms - a sign of fun things to come I hope!

And I loved Godric's cameo, very subtle. If mom only knew.

I tried out different scenarios in my head -- trying to put myself in mom's shoes, and then in Eric's. On the one hand, I think she'd be legitimately furious. On the other -- Carsten's seventeen in my fic. The larger issue (I hope this doesn't sound pretentious) is Carsten's mom being confronted with the fact that her son is, essentially, a man. He's going to do what he wants, and she has limited control over that. That's got to suck for a parent.

Yeah, Godric. Heh. I need to get working on the part I took out :)

I don't think you sound pretentious at all, I think you conveyed the mother/son relationship and what happens when your nearly adult son makes choices you don't agree with. It's a delicate balance. Interesting to look at such a normal issue being thrust into such a very bizarre situation/world. Vampires and moms don't play out very often, but in reality I bet they'd have to, your scenario is a case in point to that.

Anyways, well done as always my dear! Can't wait for the porny bit, haha :)

Carsten's mom is pretty amazing. I admire her and the relationship she has with her son. She must have been a stronghold in Carsten's life and surely will continue to be. Carsten is one lucky boy! :D

I love Carsten's mom. I only ever wanted to write her because I figure she's got to be pretty great, since Carsten's so great himself. And yes -- I tried out (and ultimately rejected) Eric doing the whole turn-on-the-charm thing in favor of his being kind of a pragmatic realist, which is the way I mostly write him. He wasn't a total bastard about it, in his way he was trying to be nice, he knows how important Carsten's mom is to Carsten. But in the end, Carsten's seventeen, not twelve. She can't win, you know?

Yeeeeaaaaaaahhhh, stay tuned for the porny bit I lopped off the end of this fic because it changed the tone so much. I wanted this to be sweet. But I have to make the ficlet bigger.

That whole blood-exchange thing I think (?) I pretty much made up, having not read most of the CH books. But if they can feel each other's emotions, why can't that extend a bit further to food? I admit part of it is my feeling incredibly sorry for vampires that they can't eat, weird as that sounds. I think food would be a huge kink for
