Godric is terrifying. He can torture his lover so that he is shaking with fear and distress, all the while, musing aesthetically on the taste of berries. Moments later he can be loving and playful. You suggest that on some level it is mostly his love for Eric and Eric's love for life that motivates him to keep going. He is somehow both inhuman and ultra-human. A great creation.

Part of me wants to rescue Carsten from their thrall and part of me is (almost) convinced that he is very safe. It was shocking when Godric told the boy he is a torturer but perhaps it is only fair he should have some idea of what kind of creatures he's dealing with.

Very intense episode.

Godric IS terrifying. In my fic-world, if you extend his life out to that length, given his personality, he's not really all that human or rational, although he's intelligent enough to keep himself from being staked. I'm always searching for that razor-edge point with him -- terrible and terrifying, but not manifestly evil. And since I kept him alive rather than sending him to the roof, my motivation (okay, beyond the porn) is that he never would have left Eric like that. You're right, in my head, Eric is what keeps Godric going.

I thought Godric explaining the torture was an opportunity for one of those huge moments of vampire-human (Godric-Carsten?) disconnect where their world collide in a bad way, and Godric didn't even mean to upset him. And yes, there's that tension -- Carsten's safe with them, more or less, but he's never totally safe.

So glad you liked this -- I was pleased. There's a lot of shifting in POV and tone from humorous to pretty grim, which of course is the way I like it -- you too, apparently. I figure even folks bored with my convoluted vampire backstory plotting can skim that and enjoy the rest of it.

Godric is absolutely fascinating. And Carsten - he's safe from everything except Eric and Godric, who can't be anything but themselves.

I really enjoyed this installment, looking forward to the next one! :)

Thanks -- I like toying with the idea of Carsten's safety being relative. Eric loves him and Carsten's "safe" - but not, as you point out, from Eric and Godric, who can only see him from a vampire perspective.

Holy shit. I love the dark depths you take this to :)

Also, the sort of mirror image between Godric/Eric and Eric/Carsten... so much of the "because I can" and focus on healing afterward... I could see it coming back to bite everyone in the ass in an entirely unsexy way :/

Yeah, that's what has evolved as being fun in writing this trio - the weird parallels between E/G and E/C. In their own weird way, they love and they mean well, but they are hugely flawed beings. Sort of a magnification of human flaws. I'm surprised nobody's gotten on here yet to wag a finger at Eric for hurting Carsten -- I was wagging my finger when I wrote it! Shame on Eric.

Something tells me that Carsten will make him feel guilty enough in time. Like, right at the moment, Eric seemed a bit too defensive to really pay attention, focusing on the end that he healed him, but I'm sure if they go to do something again and Carsten is wary or reluctant, it will fuck Eric up quite a bit :) (man it's messed up that that inspires a smiley face for me!).

Also, I see it as somewhat of a challenge - both Eric and Godric are doing things to their lovers that they expressly Do Not Want, but can Eric be more human about it?

I can't imagine Carsten just letting this drop (although it's been a mighty strange evening... and I'm not sure how much of it he'll remember). And Eric is definitely more "human" -- in fact I'd argue that lots of humans could have behaved exactly as he did, without the healing part, of course.

Thanks. This fic was all over the place in tone but I think it works pretty well.
