You can do resizing right on bigiron with mogrify and convert. Both of them do about the same thing, but mogrify overwrites the files you change, and convert makes new ones.
mogrify -size 160x120 *.jpg
That will resize (overwriting in place) all jpgs in your current directory.
man mogrify on bigiron for more info. You can do pretty much anything to an image with these programs.
