We've augmented the plan with a Phase I-A - a long weekend charter in the Apostles in August. I'm taking the kids out on a Tartan 37 so they can get some big-boat experience and so I can have a charter on my sailing resume before I book the BVI charter ( Read more... )

Sailing a 36-foot boat is really no different than sailing any other boat. The difference is in the complexity of systems that you find on bigger boats and (for me at least) getting comfortable handling them under power around the dock ( Read more... )

Before going out on Superior, I had a need to get new foul weather gear. I only ever had a foulie coat, and that's been MIA for a while. I looked around and decided, for the price, West Marine Explorer gear was the way to go. I went to the store and they had my size. The plan starts with two ASA courses - Basic Cruising and Bareboat Charter. From there it proceeds to the Caribbean.

One never knows how long a plan will survive, but this one looks promising.
