Precise and to the point no-nonsense formal letters are great - especially when they include mention to regulatory bodies and the press.
On one occasion with a bank that owed me money on a credit card account, I reminded them that the bailiffs had already attended their (otherwise anonymous) UK security centre offices at Derby after they had failed to pay out to a little old lady after a small claims court ruling and that I would have to initiate similar proceedings with appropriate publicity in respectable newspaper finacial pages - the cheque arrived 2 days later (having endured 8 weeks of stalemate).
