I must make a mental note of this whenever I need a business format to tell someone to Frack right off as they don't have a leg to stand on!

I take it you left the final, post-signature line in the copy you sent ;)

Sadly, no. I have been aiming to remain reasonably civil, despite the temptation to be otherwise. Fuckwits.

Sadly, that is the best and quickest way to get results. Just not so much fun.

Having never encountered a MAC before, I went to Wikipedia to investigate. You'll be pleased to know (if you don't already) that Wikipedia's citation for the claim that some providers refuse to supply a MAC is "an Ofcom report concerning Pipex's failure to supply MACs in 2008" :)

if and when you get this letter keep it forever.

i work for a debt collection company now and most companies like this will sell on debts to debt purchasers who will wait for 5-6 years before chasing it knowing that people do not keep such paperwork.

Ta, that is worth bearing in mind.

Out of curiosity, is there a limit on how long they can leave it before chasing you for a debt ? I'd assumed it'd be 7 years, but don't really know where to check that.

You might be able to find the answer at www.adviceguide.org.uk, the Citizens Advice public info site.

When I left our old flat, I gave them 6 weeks notice. Due to the billing period, when we where disconnected, I still had eight days left on that billing month, they technically owed me eight days back.

They started to chase me for the following month's then following two months payments.

It took me a good thirty minutes to explain to the woman who's English was none-too-good, just what had gone on and how, if anything, they owe ME money.

I also pointed out that the line had been moved, had a new ADSL provision on it, and the previous address had been demolished, so how the hell did they intend to persue me anyway.

*fume*

I maintain they've sucked ever since tiScally bought them out.

Yes, agreed. And they're now owned by Carphone Warehouse, which makes me want to avoid having anything to do with CW too.

Oh, and I bet that was 30 min on a premium-rate phone number... bunch of scamming fuckwits.

Actually, I refused to phone them back, or to confirm anything factual with them unless they gave me some indication that they where who they said they where. Of course they refused to provide factual proof until I had proven who I was with factual information.

I told them to send it in writing to the new address in that case, keeping in mind the old address had been demolished, and they went into panic mode and started talking.

Then one person not to cross is someone who has spent half a decade dealing with customer complaints in a utilities call centre :D

I've dealt with CW before. We sold for them at one point. Excellent company. Hopefully, they'll whip the nonsense into shape soon enough.
