"Fix" is one of those words that has more than one meaning down here in the Deep South. One can fix a drink, fix something that's broken, or be fixin' to do something or go somewhere. I can see how it might be irritating, though.
Oh that drives me CRAZY too. I hate it! Although I'll also admit I don't really like the word "fix" to start with. But when my friends use that term in regards to food, I do tease them: "It doesn't make nearly as much sense if you say 'I'm going to repair lunch'."
Along the same lines, I really, really hate it when people use the phrase "whip up" in the same context. You should only be whipping a fluffy cream-type product. Nothing else.
I don't mind that at all. It's kind of like when people say they're going to fix their dog or cat.
Yeah, I'll fix you for spraying my sofa, all right. I'll fix you up good!
What drives me crazy are people who say that they are 'fixing to' do something. Like "I'm fixin' to make breakfast" meaning they are about to-- but pronounce it 'fiskin'.
How difficult it must be for a person to learn our english when there are words that have so many meanings:
I'll fix the broken bike. I'll fix a great meal. I'll fix you. I need a fix. I'm in a terrible fix. I have a good fix on where you live. Let's fix the date for the party. I like to fix my eyes on beautiful women.

From now on the proper statement will be "I am going to prepare a snack/meal/mixed drink".
Because I hate putting something in my mouth that is not ready...
