In Which I Discover [the General] You Can't Go Home Again... Or Something

When I was 14, I joined the Mormon Church. Some of you may already know this. I was an adolescent convert, introduced to that religion by a junior high school friend. No one else in my family had ever been a Mormon before, and no one else in my family converted along with me.

old church friends, old friends in general, life experiences in the meantime, and finding each other again after twenty-odd years... is it worth it? Survey says: prolly not! )

Did I tell you that we have Mormons under the floorboards? Yep, a real-live infestation on the first floor. First a pair of "sisters," and now two of the male-type.

I turn up my TV and stomp on the floor just for fun. ;)

Ha! Now I'll stay up even later and try to google up MY old best Mormon buddy, Joe - but just to stalk him, and maybe be appalled at how badly he's probably aged... :b

I never try to look up old friends...I wouldn't know what to do about bridging that gap between then and now, and I'm such a recluse that writing or talking to even my grandparents is a chore. Eheh. But I understand your frustration - if I did reach out, I'd like there to be -some- reciprocation. Feh.

I had a similar experience last year with my high school best friend. I moved heaven and earth to contact her because I heard she was having a horrible time in her personal life and wanted to be there for her. We were supposed to meet up when I went to NC to visit my folks, even had a time and date planned. She never showed up and we heard not one word from her as to why or wherefore. I was disappointed, but not terribly surprised.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with past friends. It is a shame that people can't just accept and love each other as they are, without fitting into some sort of preconceived mold, including (*gag*) "the save list."
