Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my, what a lot of funny things go by.

I'm at that point of sickness where I've become a bit delirious. I probably should go back to sleep, but since I've been sleeping all day, my brain says, "No, this is fun, let's stay awake for a while more." It has definitely led to some amusement in LJ reading. My brain keeps skipping words or rearranging them. For example, in a meme I was ( Read more... )

As far as I can tell, Kreuzberg (less a 't') was/is actually *on* the (now former) base in Zweibrücken. The area might have been called that before the base was established, or there may simply have been a hill with a cross on it there when the Canadians made it their base so they just called it that. Actually, it appears that this is correct, as the Wiki for Zweibrücken (here) talks about it in that way. It is now, since 1993, the seat of a college belonging to the university of applied sciences in Kaiserslautern.

It appears that some thwop went and tried to establish a mini-nation there a couple of years ago, the "Kingdom of Kreuzberg", and that is what it's 'famous' for now. *grins*

Now that makes sense. Kreuzberg (the Army Base) was actually in Zweibrucken, just across town from the Zweibrucken Air Force Base. Called Kreuzberg because it was on top of the hill that someone once stuck a cross on (which I vaguely remember something about back in school). For some reason I thought Kreuzberg was not actually in the town of Zweibrucken, but somewhere near by, but I guess I was wrong and it actually was in Zweibrucken.

And that map of the base even shows where the elementary school was (right where I remembered it). Yay! Thanks for finding Kreuzberg!

You would think, that since I went to school there, I would remember how to spell it. Perhaps I should wait until I'm not delirious with sick before I try to look things up (stupid z's that make t sounds to fool us Americans into using an extra t--and I really did know that, really).
