You know it's happened to Snape. Elsewhere in the fanfic world, it's happened to John Constantine, Malcolm Reynolds, Gregory House, Sherlock Holmes, and even (yeah, I didn't believe it either) Bernard Black from Black Books. Then Joss Whedon (who I usually love) did it to Angel in the show's canon, which made me twitch, twitch, twitch. I think he realized how much that plotline sucked, because first Angel's son was dispatched into a hell dimension, and then (even better) brainraped and dumped into a boringly nice suburban family. Worst plotline of the whole series, IMHO ( ... )

It's disturbing both from a moral standpoint - the whole idea of bringing another life into the world for purely selfish reasons entirely unrelated to actually wanting that life - and from a practial perspective: it's essentially blackmail. Emotional blackmail at the very least.
Not to mention it propagates the idea that "A Woman's Duty is the Bear Children, and Bear She Must If She Is To Be a Woman." Indeed, it implies that the reason the man didn't like the girl in the first place was because she had yet to prove herself as a woman.
Since, obviously, being a human being wasn't enough ( ... )
