Envy watched her pick herself up and make her way for the porch. He could kill her now. Run her through. Tear off her arms and legs. Pull her insides outside. Remove her jaw and watch her drown in her own blood. Skin her alive. But then she couldn't watch her dear grandmother die, could she?
He whipped around and sent a foot for her stomach (and what a pity it was that she wasn't carrying a child outside of that disaster). This girl couldn't stand against him. She couldn't even struggle to fight in the amusing way that Ed tried to. The only entertainment Winry provided was watching her pure stupidity through her stubbornness.
"You're trying my patience, brat." His voice was silken now. Laced with venom and threat. "Continue to stand in my way and I'm going to break each of your toes."
Doubling over, Winry fell back as the kick connected. She fell on her ass with a thud, and a small "oof!" The girl rubbed her behind and her expression didn't look all too happy. She started to get up again, proving her persistence.
"Envy, please. Don't do this," Her voice was pleading, yes, but not pathetic. Her determination made it's way into her words, and every time she spoke her blue eyes connected with his violet ones. She was up and walking again, but this time her destination was Envy himself and not the porch steps.
The homunculus' expression shifted so that it was angry. Frustrated. Furious that she wouldn't fucking stop. How many times would she need to be sent to the ground before she stayed there? Envy could break her toes. Her legs. Her knees and her hips. Then she'd have no choice but to stay in the dirt where she belonged.
"You think you can stop me? You think you're so fucking different that you can convince me with your words?" he accused. "You humans. You're all the same. You think you can control me. You think I'm so fucking misunderstood and that I need your help. You think I'm some little boy who needs a mommy. You think I'm so fucking defenseless and lonely and that you can fix it all with your pretty and empty promises."
Envy flung himself forward onto his hands, pushed himself into the air, and flipped so that when he landed he was facing Winry's back. Then he spun and aimed another strong kick for her again. This time at her spine, though he controlled his strength so that it wouldn't snap her in half. For now.
Again with the dirt in her mouth! This time her lip was scratched open. Blood dripped from her mouth staining the dirt as she tried once again to get up. Winry was having more trouble this time. Her body was aching all over and it was becoming harder to think straight with every hit she took.
She was finally able to get on her hands and knees, with small pebbles embedded in the soft skin of her elbows. Winry spit out a little more blood and looked over her shoulder. If she could hold him off long enough until he got bored, perhaps Pinako wouldn't even have to know he visited at all.
"My promises," she said, making eye contact again, "aren't empty."
The girl wouldn't be able to last long. Ed could last a little longer because he was used to the beatings. This brat wasn't used to anything more than tinkering with her ridiculous tools. What a useless fucking girl.
Envy crouched next to her with his arms resting on his knees. At this level it was easier for their eyes to connect and he tilted his head as he observed her. Humans were fucking disgusting. Weak. Useless. They were beneath cockroaches. They served no purpose. They bred more than rabbits. They smelled filthier than swine. They would destroy each other even without Envy's help.
"Every human's promise is an empty one." He reached with one hand and grabbed a fistful of her hair, pulling firmly so that it would begin to burn. "Your promises are as useless as you are. You think you can do this forever? The old bastard couldn't. Ed failed within months of trying and still he continues to blame me. You won't last. None of them ever last because they promise what they can't give. What they can't understand." Envy's
