Chanukah and other December musings...

Happy Chanukah!

I hope that everyone is having a good holiday. I've always liked Chanukah since it's always been close to my birthday (last year was one of the few that it was late enough to be on my birthday! I did feel a little bit gypped, but my parents always made sure that I got the "big" present on my birthday, and I also usually got a few ( Read more... )

My older son's birthday is exactly two weeks before Christmas. We always made a point of not putting up a tree or any holiday decorations until after his birthday, so that they were separate special occasions. I think I did this because my mother's birthday is December 27th. She never had a proper birthday.

I hope that you have had a good Chanukah and I'm with you 100% on the days getting longer thing.

My bday is around Halloween.. peeps were always going to halloween parties. So, in orer to have a bday party, I had to through a halloween party hahahahahahah

My son's birthday fel on Thanksgiving this year... and is always flaoting around it. It is actually cool, cause he gets this BIG party called LosCon to go have every year. ;-) He has had a couple of room parties to celebrate his bday with con friends.

My grandson's birthday was on Thanksgiving this year, as well as my parents 57th wedding anniversary. They have no excuse for forgetting their great-grandson's birthday. Fortunately, from the holiday standpoint, my younger son's family have moved to Edmonton, the Thanksgiving is in October, so there is no conflict there.

My family all hhave/had birthdays near some holiday, just sometimes they were more of a conflict that others.

My mother's was in February, so hers was near Washington's Birthday-->President's Day.

My father's was in June, so he got combined with Father's Day.

My brother's is in March, and sometimes his was during/near Passover.

And my niece kept up the tradition by being near Fourth of July. (I didn't start going to Westercons until she was old enough to prefer friends at her parties to relatives. :-)

Probably the best parties I had were when I was 10, 11 & 12. I had New Year's Eve/Sleepover/Birthday parties. My friends parents liked the fact that they could go out without needing a sitter, except for my one friend who was the sitter for her younger siblings. But she lived across the street, so she came outside when we all did to bang on pots and pans and celebrate New Year's.

I really like SmofCon 25 website.. nice feel and look.

HHmm... looking at what the main topic for the programming is.. I may want to entertain the idea of attending in 2007... *contemplates the idea*

Thanks! There's still some more tweaking to do, and of course more pages to fill in. But it a good start.

Smofcons are more than just the main topic, but when it all clicks together, they are really good and useful. Rates will go up at the end of February, so you have some time to get your membership.
