Rough start to the day. First thing when I got in I was told to call the other store because their internet wasn't working. I went through all sorts of network trouble shooting steps and verified that everything was working as it should. Turns out the PC wasn't even on and no-one could figure that out. Yesterday was a pretty fine day. I spent the morning taking apart the rotting lean-to from the north side of my house. There will be at least another day of work taking apart the hall closet and the floor, then a few more putting a window in and adding a new cantievered closet to my room ( Read more... )

I attended a few diy fest events on Saturday including Robin Hahnel's lecture. I was quite disappointed by the lecture since US politics and economic/bank policy don't interest me much. I guess I shouldn't have have expected much from an economist ( Read more... )

The word that best seems to describe my life right now is 'conventional'. I have a stable 32 hour per week salaried job and don't do much which is illegal or challenging to the establishment. I don't have a phone right now since the cellphone failed and home phone service won't be installed till the end of the month. I don't mind and would sort of like to stay without a phone line. I suspect other people do mind not being able to call me ( Read more... )

This is my account of the Mantario trail hiking trip I went on with Mel (bareftinthesnow) and Iain (ijgrant) I expect they'll post their own versions sometime. The origional plan was to hike the full length of the trail from the north to south trailhead over 60km away.

( Day One: An ok start )

The bike dump today was sort of busy. I showed up at 10am to work on my own bike and cleanup the shop and there were already kids waiting outside 2 hours before opening. By 12 there were at least 20 people waiting, mostly kids. I spend almost the entire time just working with 2 kids and by the end I was feeling mildly stressed from being pulled ( Read more... )

I was reading backward through my journal entries last night and decided to un-private a bunch from the past 2 years. Some of them were private because they were banal, or not yet complete. Other felt too personal to share at the time. I feel now that the banal and incomplete ones wont bother you because they don't appear at the top of your f- ( Read more... )

I found a new hidden space in my house today (Another basement area). It isn't very big (3' x 10') but is tall enough to stand up in.

It is only accessible from outside so less useful for hiding purposes than the other hidden areas I've found.
