Point well-taken - not that I didn't recognize that the original author wasn't a swimmer and largely didn't know what he was talking about. Actually, if you clean it up a bit you could probably turn it into a letter to the editor.
Didn't read the original article (op-ed pieces almost always annoy me so I just leave my blood pressure alone and ignore them)...but seriously...swimming is not easy, people. One thing I didn't see you write about was coordination of the strokes, kicks, and breathing. It's not just having to coordinate breathing with the arms and when your face is out of the water ('cause unless you have gills, breathing face down in the water is generally held to be a BAD idea) there's also the whole thing of the feet. So there's three pieces to think about. Seriously. Drat. Now I miss swimming. Not that I was ever very good at it, but when I was in school (and just out of school) I swam all the time (once I finally learned to put my head underwater again; almost-drowning at age 10 scarred me for a while).
:) Good to hear from you...next time might I suggest an lj-cut for length? :)
