Hey, so, quite recently, I finished an epic rewatch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series. I use the word "epic" because I was doing this rewatch with a friend, and it took us five years to complete. Re: part 3,the best fanon answer I have found is that it was not actually the sex itself that caused the shift. Angel had probably not been celibate before Buffy (more reason not to know about the clause), and the average sexually active person is not going to find true fulfillment each time they have sex. The key is that Angel loved Buffy, that for him it was more than sex. If you watch the episode, Angel appears to loose his soul some time after she has fallen asleep. Perhaps it was the combination of afterglow, being so close to someone he loved and knew loved him, and knowing that he was trusted that combined to make that happiness "perfect" for him. When he sleeps with Darla, it is not about love. He likes Nina, but not the way he did Buffy. Cordelia, on the other hand, he really did love, even if it was not as pure as that time before he knew that happiness was something to fear.
