Major Updates

Nov 25, 2008 18:40

Well, I figured it’s about that time of year again. Yep. The time where I write an update truly befitting of an online journal. Something informative, with some depth and insight into the mind of its author. Something I can look back on 5 years from now and say “Oh, so that’s what was going on in my life then.”

First and foremost - because I am ( Read more... )

We do have employment agencies, but they don't sound as good as the system your country uses. Here, for college-students, they're usually called "Work-Study". Now, my mom says they go on a greatest-need basis, but I've tried without success to get a job through them before and I don't know...I hope she's right. I also hope that there are enough spaces open for me. With so many people out of work, it's going to be rough.

I've been applying for the low-pay-but-necessary jobs. All the times I've mentioned job-hunting? Those were the ones. >.< I wasn't being picky. The problem is that there is just too much competition, and I always lose out with my lack of work experience and few U.S.-based references ( because most of my friends do not, in fact, live in the U.S. ). I even applied for a "no-experience necessary" dish-washing job at the local casino and couldn't get hired, even though they interviewed me twice and said I interviewed well. That might have been because I told them I could only work through the 30th of December ( ... )

I’m delighted to hear that things are going onward and upward for you(with some exceptions)! So is this a 4-year course? When did you discover this calling? I know quite a few biologists and although I’ve always found it interesting up to a point but never quite saw the appeal of careers in biology or medicine. Something I appreciate and admire without ever wanting to get deeply engrossed in.

I’ve come into some money also, for boring reasons, but I think I may have some fun this year! Travelling or whatever.

That dress was made for you! And there's nothing wrong with witchy hair.

Actually, it would only be 2 years if I'd known from Day 1 that I'd wanted to major in Biology, but alas, I was not that lucky. :( Bachelor's degrees build on your AA degrees, but in this case I didn't have enough science credits on my AA, so...it's going to be about 2 and a half years. :/

Now I'm worried about *finding* an apartment to get into on time...I've ran into some problems with my searches involving rent and when it's received, location, places being full, etc., and I can't get down to Vancouver with the roads being solid sheets of ice like they are now. Ugh! Time's running out!

Thanks for the compliment. ;) I still *really* hate my hair. >.<

How are things in your neck of the woods? Is it very cold? What are these "boring" reasons you're coming into money ( just because I'm curious ), and where do you think you'll visit?

I must have overlooked your reply to my comment here.

'Muddle through'? Hmm, that's the Briton in you talking. Maybe some rubbed off :)

As for planning -- the trick is to give yourself a groundhog day-like advantage by drawing a tree or flowchart and making backup plans for each plan that might fail.

This doesn't come naturally to me at all. I am a first-class scatterbrain and timewaster. But it is because I'm a scatterbrain that forward planning, the solution, becomes more attractive.

I came into money through 1) one aunt dying and 2) someone paying me a debt that I thought I would never get back, 3) birthday money 4) i recieved money for a piece of voluntary work

Where will i visit? holland and\or united states.

This is something, a fitness guru would say. :D

What's wrong with a roommate who isn't your sister? She can be a girl like you.

But don't fret, Shady, I'm sure you'll go leave the nest soon.

The problem with a roommate is that I am an *extremely* private person, and I really, really hate my personal space being invaded by someone I don't know very well, no matter how "nice" she is. Plus I'm rather weird and unique, so the odds that the girl would be "a girl like me" are slim-to-none, to say the least. And if she WERE like me, she'd drive me nuts ( ... )

Alright. That's understandable, you want someone you've known for years and is a girl.

So you like your privacy, even from a girl? I mean, your a girl and she's a girl. She can be sitting naked on her computer doing her assignment, you walk in and she's alright with it, something like that. \

Your a very private woman, that's fine. :D

When I say "private" I don't mean for purely physical reasons. It makes no difference to me wheather a strange man or a strange woman sees me naked, or wheather I see them naked; I'd experience the same squirm-factor either way.

I mean I like having my own place to have complete, utter, and absolute control of where *I* make the rules and can do whatever I want whenever I want. Having a roommate, male or female, takes some of that power away from me. And I have a lot of obsessions/decor habits that most people would find strange. :D

I guess you could call me a "control freak" in some regards. I like things to go a certain way, and I get very upset when that doesn't happen. And again, I would much rather live alone than with someone I haven't known for years and properly acclimatised myself too.

Yes, I realize I am the black sheep of society. But it's okay to be different, right? *grins*
