I agree. I used to get so angry when I'd see on the front page all this stuff about a rich, cute, white girl getting kidnapped and then like near the back page a story about three poor, cute, black girls getting kidnapped. It shouldn't happen at all, but all the kids should have equal news to have equal chance of being found.
And statistics show it costs tax-payers more to give someone the death penalty than life in prision due to the legal costs of all of the appeals and other technicalities that go with it.
The most popular response I've had has been "well, we shouldn't allow them so many appeals and additional court appearances," which frightens the hell out of me that they actually might mean it. The death penalty is a big thing. It's not something we can take back if we later find out the system messed up. I think they should be allowed as many appeals as they can to try to make sure the system hasn't made a mistake.
