I dont know about the rest, but that whole high-land low-land evolution is...well pretty much true and can easil be observed in the world today. To a lesser degree such phenotypic evolutionary differances are where our current notions of "race" come from ( i.e people living in cooler climates tend to have flater noses where the nosrels point inward to help retain body heat whereas people who live in warmer climates tend to have longer noses and more outward pointing nosrels to cool of thier body better). This is pretty true for animals as well.

p.s. on islands evolution gets all messed up as creatures (including people!) tend to shrink ( the islands of the alaskan coast used to have mini-mammoths!) or get oversized ( Mega-Sloth!)

awwww, kick-ass! i want a mini-mammoth!
so, what do you think? can an individual's genetic code chang during its lifetime? I know we're not incredibly well-funded researchers or anything, but ideas are fun to kick around, aren't they?

Well, I dont know if the genetic code could change per se...but maybe how that code is interpreted and carried out by the body could change. For instance, have you ever heard of ferial humans? Its a real phenominon just like how cats can become ferial people can too...specifically very young children. Most of these cases involve extremely young children (young enough when they haven't learned to speak) that were abandoned by their parents and left for dead...and were then, somehow, adopted by a pack of wild dogs ( i dont know why dogs.. thats just how it happens most often). Lacking human contact these children adopt canine behaviour and, if they remine isolated from human contact before a certain age they actually lose the ability to communicate ( i.e. is no contact until 12-13 yrs old they cant say more then a few words, 9-10 cant say more then simple sentances, etc). This happens because a lack of human contact actually stunts the growth of the part of the brain that allows for human communication and the older the children ( ... )
