a book, a skirt, and the rest

Last week I finished the 2nd book I've read this year: Improbable by Adam Fawer. The characters were drawn with broad strokes, and the plot was nothing special. I've found hacked out mysteries to have more character development and believeable action. However, the science (mostly involving statistics, probability, and quantum physics) made the rest ( Read more... )

Sounds like you picked a hard project for your first skirt. A circular hem is hard for ANYbody.

That does sound fascinating about the intellect that could predict the future.

I haven't seen one of those ergonomic baby carriers. I wish they'd had those when my kids were little. Having those poles sticking me in the side and back wasn't fun.

actually, the skirt was an "easy sew" pattern. And really, aside from that hem it was pretty easy. I did have a problem with the drawstring casing too, because it also involved folding under the raw edge and pressing a couple times. But even with raw edge sticking out in a few places because my pressing came out while I was sewing (ugh) I didn't mind as much as with the hem.

I had used the ErgoBaby carrier once before when borrowing it from a friend for a hiking trip in April. It was SO AWESOME. And it hold up to 40 pounds! *dances* I really hope to start hiking more that I have in my past. I've always really enjoyed it. I've decided to start doing more things that I really enjoy.

Let me know how the baby carrier works out. My sister and her husband want to start up camping again this fall and like to hike. (They'll be camping with me and Isaac.)

Hems are just hard, especially circular hems like psychogranny. It's been a long time since I've done one; I'd have to look at a tutorial or something.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. I can't wait until school starts and things settle down again.

Will do on the baby carrier! How cool you'll be doing a bunch of camping with Isaac and your family.

Thanks for the pep talk on the hems. I just don't even do straight lines that well hahaha. (Unless they are short). But practice makes perfect. I really enjoy wearing this skirt around even though it's not perfect (I'll take a picture sometime and uh, maybe post it depending on how it looks).

Yeah, aren't summers when you're supposed to relax? With kids especially, it seems like it's go go go.

Those carriers are really cool! One of my friends was able to get one off ebay.

I had been checking on ebay for awhile and I never could find one that was cheaper (and used). So I finally decided to bite the bullet. $92 yikes! (But worth it...I can't find anything better, or make anything better).

I think people must keep them forever or pass them on forever. I never see them at garage sales or anything like that, either.
My friend probably got ripped off. She's one of those people who assumes because it's on ebay it will be cheaper.
