Outsourcing my table

I walked to Quizno's for lunch. It's a short walk, about ten minutes. It takes an equal amount of time to walk back, and an equal amount of time to get my food, an equal amount of time to eat: 40 minutes total, walking, ordering, eating, and walking at a brisk place. Personally, on the realization that there are no vacant tables, I would have bought my food and left the restaurant; that's the American way. Perhaps, the Indian guy was looking for a friend.

Cuturally, on a non-American level, I'm not sure. Was it a "WOO-WOO-WOO" Feathered-Headband Indian or a dotted-forehead "AWAAAAAAAAH" Indian?

I know from our mutual close friend who spent a year in Chile that people there have no problems sharing restaurant seats with strangers. American culture is nearly unprecidented in its prizing of privacy and personal space, and its intense fear of "others."
