Aghhh!

Aghhh! Why does time pass more quickly when one has deadlines? A plan-free Saturday night goes on for eons, but a week before a deadline feels like a nanosecond ( Read more... )

I'm with D on the single colour, single accent, but I think it can be either the belt or the cardigan/jacket. Or even a pair of shoes. I think a red belt and a green sweater might be a little too Christmas. If black tends to wash you out, go with a cardigan/jacket that does not. Also, the belt sounds awesome.

You will look very smart, regardless. And, more importantly, you will, be very smart. Smarty-pants.

You may be right. I'm totally committed to the belt, but if I wasn't, I'd switch and wear red shoes. However, I think my ex-gay-TV-boyfriend, Clinton, would totally be on board with the green sweater.

Also, yer a sweetie. Good luck ce soir (i.e. right now, your time).

Is Clinton ex-gay? Don't tell me he felt for one of those gimmicky camps.

Oh, and did you date him at one time? (I guess that's beside the point, oddly.)

Nope, he's still gay, as far as I can tell. The X is for how we're not dating anymore.

I'm also in favour of the single colour, single accent, so either the red belt or the green cardigan rather than the two of them.

I am wishy-washy:
A structured jacket is generally more formal than a cardigan, which would be a vote in favour of the belt with jacket option.
But do the blacks match? I hate it when my blacks don't match, and as you know, I love black.
Grass-green is pretty and spring-y and a good colour on you, and would be a bit of a color standout, whereas
a black cardigan or jacket would have a streamlined slick-like-NYC vibe to it.

Put both outfits on and see which feels better, and keep both options open (i.e. ironed) in case you change your mind the night before. And MtM is right: you will look and be very smart. Smartie smart smart.

All I would add here is that it's really important that you feel comfortable, so another consideration is to find the outfit that comes closest to this goal. This is from the guy who teaches most classes wearing cargo pants. I wouldn't recommend this outfit for special occasions, but for everyday it's fine. If I had to wear a tie every day I'd have choked to death long ago.

PP, I'm so happy you rang in on this! I have taken your advice to heart. Comfort - minus the cargo pants (for girls, anyway) - is totally the best way to go.

Comfort = minus cargo pants?? Hey, whatever goes!

Seriously, comfort rules--especially for this fashion-unconscious fella. Comfort--it's the new black. All the cool kids are doing it.

No question: belt and cardi or jacket of similar black. I am wise in the ways of the professional outfit. Trust me.

I trust you. I do. And I went with the black cardi, as instructed. But it was really hard to leave the green one behind.

Must find a way to make it work for next time.

It should be Christmas everyday. Take Santa, for example. He wears his christmas suit everyday, not that he's a fashion icon or anything. But then, he only wears red and white with a black belt. Imagine if he added green spats.

Some days I wish I had spats.
I wish I had spat.
Spitted.

White belts are all the rage.

spat and raged...sounds like a fashion crime

White belts are sooo tempting. Sadly, there were none in sight on the fateful day.

But I did spend some time thinking about Santa-as-alternative-fashion icon. Some students of mine once suggested that we should all wear bland jumpsuits and forget about shopping for other kinds of clothes.

They were young and naive.
