I noticed an interesting parallel between Pip and Ahab in Chapter 93. In this chapter, Pip repeatedly jumps off a harboon boat. Stubb warns Pip that if he jumps again, he will not pick him up, but Pip does not heed his warning. When Pip jumps again, Stubb leaves him in the sea to teach him a lesson. Much like Iris, I noticed the importance of fate in Moby Dick, particularly in Chapter 37. Ahab reveals that he was victim of his fate. There was once a prophesy that he "should be dismembered" and he did indeed lose his leg at sea to Moby Dick (243).
