My friends are saints and santa clauses and I love them all. The emotional (and other kinds) of support from you folks has been AMAZING AND AWESOME and there is no WAY on earth that Suki won't make a full recovery with people like you in her corner ( Read more... )

Sick cats mostly want to be left alone. If the hard-to-reach places involve jumping or any amount of physical effort, she's not likely to get to them anyway. Spend most of your time with Lirin but wash your hands (both ways) and go in and keep Suki as much company as she can take. Don't be afraid to pet her if she tolerates it. It will be comforting to her and to you. She may very well purr a lot, too; some cats do it when stressed as well as for a source of comfort.

You might want to put a towel, throw, or something in there to put her on to act as a barrier between the two of you that is nevertheless comforting. I find it necessary when cats sit on me anyway to prevent kneading with claws out from turning into a painful sport.

I'm glad the news is better than I thought it might be from your previous posts. Perhaps our Cat God Almighty growling at all the cats in kitty heaven (she hates other cats) did the trick.

I'm SO glad things are going in the right direction, and will continue to send all good thoughts that the trend continues. She can be merciful, can't She, and maybe She loves teh kittehs, just like her nephew! (Maybe the middle name helped! ^____^ ) Crossing fingers and toes, and sending the kitteh-mommy lots of hugs and love, too. ♥♥♥

My question is: it seems like Lirin has already got what Suki has, only you caught it much earlier. In any, case, she's definitely been exposed - cat snot, litter boxes, etc - all those viruses and bacteria are all over your house. Why quarantine Suki? If she's feeling yucky, she'll hide away from Lirin anyway, right? As Lawless says, washing hands is always a good idea, but unless you've completely sanitized your house, both kitties, and yourself, those microorganisms are still there and Lirin has already been infected. Sounds like with the antibiotics, she's already fighting it off.

Yeah, I thought that too, but the vet isn't sure what all is going on with Suki and is worried she might have other things besides the respiratory thing. Trust me, I asked, because separating them is going to be a giant pain in my ass. But she was very clear about it...

When my cat got hit by a car and miraculously only broke his back leg, I had to keep him in a cage for 2 weeks after he was patched up. I put him in the spare room and I sat with him for a few hours every day. Sometimes I left music on to keep him company, and all my housemates and our visitors always looked in on him. He was still lonely and cried at night but I just had to bear it because it was for his own good; if he moved he'd just inflame his injury and back to the vet he would go. On the upside, he learned to say "hello", which was what every single person said to him when they opened that spare room door. He also developed a meow that sounded distinctly like "out?". Actually, it was more like ouuuuuut.

Anyway, that's about all the advice I can give you. I'm sad to hear Suki has been so sick. We lost a kitten once to kitty flu and even though we only had her a week, I was still pretty cut up. I hope Suki continues to get better!

That is much better news! I'm so very glad to hear that Suki is at least looking like she's on the upswing.

Hang in there. Maybe the worst is over now?
