for someone who doesn't believe, I've realized that I spend a lot of time thinking about the idea of God. and when I say I don't believe, I don't want anyone getting confused. I believe in a number of things. I believe in family and love and respect. I believe that there are great and inspiring people in the world who I would love to someday meet. ( Read more... )

Here are a few simple arguments:

Why is god always broke?

Why believe in an invisible guy who wants to kill everybody who works on the Sabbath? Exodus 35:2. Why does god want to kill rebellious children? Deuteronomy 21:18-21.

This is a good resource for those arguments you are having trouble articulating. Also, when people imply or outright state you're immoral scum straight up ask them what it's like to only do good things because they're afraid of hell.

It's not often that I get to the point with someone where we can actually have a discussion where i'm able to present these sorts of arguments for why I don't believe in god.

most people just can't seem to get past the 'not believing in god' part. they don't want any part of my practical and logical reasoning, and they certainly don't want specific places in the bible that i can point to to back myself up.

i don't know, i tend to think of myself as an anti-theist. i actively dislike religion and the deities that go along with it. i think it's harmful to a lot of people and in the long run, plain stupid. it's very difficult to even begin to articulate that to someone with any sort of religious conviction.

i've just come to realize lately that bashing on atheists is another one of those very socially acceptable ways to be an asshole. and that it is socially acceptable is bullshit.
