So, I saw War Horse.  There were about two minutes of, "Am I buying this?"  And then I bought it.  The story is kind of dopey, if traumatizing at times, but the puppetry is truly impressive.  I didn't get random minstrel guy, really, but that's okay.  The goose was awesome, though I'm not sure how you put that on your resume.

I also watched the ( Read more... )

So I kept having to not think about Ryan Murphy apparently thinking he's as cute as Andrew (he's not)

HAHAHAHA!!!!!

It's just sort of cute with a side of sledgehammery issues and occasionally terrifyingly awful writing. I likely wouldn't watch it if Andrew weren't in it.

A bunch of my hardcore Andrew fan friends are saying the same thing -- TNN is pretty awful but Andrew himself is worth watching. Everyone's a lot more relaxed than they were in the pilot. It's a little weird how the little girl is obviously a lot older now than she was in the pilot, too.

Last night's went into some really great/intense places and then became a total shitfest. This scene kind of killed me. If you think Andrew ugly cries for TV, he doesn't; he ugly cried pretty much just like this on his last day at BoM. ;)

Ryan Murphy just seems like such an annoying person, but I guess he's creating employment for Andrew, so he has one small plus in a sea of minuses.

It's like Murphy is trying to do this OTT absurdist thing but then he really believes in the message so there's this other show with quiet, heartfelt moments. He hasn't found a way to balance those two things yet, if he ever will.

The show is also moving really fast. I can't see how they are going to justify keeping the surrogate and her kid and her grandmother around indefinitely.

Oh, and when mutli-tasking and not looking at the TV, Justin Bartha sounds alarmingly like Mo Rocca.

Yeah, this show has felt like three shows. And one of them is a PSA. And he goes and makes some great strides (or tries to) for the acceptance of gay parenting but throws in a bunch of jokes about... pretty much everybody else. One of his head writers is an out lesbian with kids, so I wonder if she thinks it's ok to say it because she "said" it or what. Or because gay men do make jokes about lesbians, but it's not helping his cause!

I also feel like Nana is written so OTT so that she legitimately won't offend anyone -- but then they go and have that bigoted guy in the mall, who does go and say realistically hurtful things, so they've shown they can't do it. I guess they don't want anyone to truly hate her?! I don't get how Bryan ended up bonding with her over Chinese food and bad jokes last night. But oh well.

The only comfort I take is that since this is Ryan Murphy's own story, and he apparently can only write if he's inspired by the actor/concept, he probably won't run out of story lines any time soon.

Nana is ridiculous and I'm sorry, her husband having an affair with another man has nothing to do with any other gay men adopting a kid. I don't get what that scene was supposed to do. I'm generally fine with OTT humor, but the funny, lovable bigot thing isn't working for me.

I also have a mixed feeling about TNN. There is no chemistry between Andrew and his partner. Also his partner, while he is cute, reminds me of Paul Ryan! lol So I get annoyed watching the show.

They got so much better after the pilot. Their chemistry in the 3rd ep finally sold it for me!

I don't actually like real geese much, but they nailed it with that goose.
