Trigger warning: contains sexual abuse

Everyone, at some point in their life, faces an ugly truth. Secrets are revealed through self-examination.

It was emotional abuse in my family, but I've had this revelation for myself. And dear god, it sucks. You have my empathy.

It does suck. I spent a great deal of time trying to wrap my head around why I didn't say anything and wondering if people knew.

Kids believe what adults tell them. I am so glad your daughter was able to tell you.

It's such a powerful lesson. We teach 'no means no' when it comes to sex, but not to anything else. If you don't want a kiss from aunty, or a hug from uncle, or if you don't want to eat something different, or to go to a show etc. We have a culture where we pressure people into doing what we want.

Anyway, sorry for that ramble. (and this is a little disjointed, but I read the comments)

I'm glad she was too. It took her a very long time to trust men again.

Rambling it fine. :) You are right and people wonder why kids bully each other.

Wow. I can't imagine that kind of epiphany... not one anyone should ever have to have. Hope there's good healing for you...

Thank you!

The hard part was having my sister tell me it wasn't abuse and I was making a big deal out of nothing.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. :/

That was abuse, and I'm glad you were able to realize that it was.

I wish it hadn't taken so many years for me to become aware.

Thank you!
