I recently tried hummus for the first time (at Fluffy's Reveal, as a matter of fact!) and I liked it. I've always read how it's good for you, etc etc, but just never tried it

I am dull... I just eat it with pita. I don't even toast it though, just soft pita. yum. it's also good as a spread; I'll put it on a grilled chicken sandwich, or a wrap with chicken and black beans. Hummus is absurdly easy to make; I can send you a recipe if you want. It's blender + chickpeas + olive oil + tahini + some spices.
tahini is sesame butter, basically. i don't know that it's butter, but it's made from sesame and is the concistency of peanut butter. or a little thinner.
Ingredients: 1 16 oz can of chickpeas or garbanzo beans 1/4 cup liquid from can of chickpeas 3-5 tablespoons lemon juice (depending on taste) 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons olive oil Preparation: Drain chickpeas and set aside liquid from can. Combine remaining ingredients in blender or food processor. Add 1/4 cup of liquid from chickpeas. Blend for 3-5 minutes on low until thoroughly mixed and smooth.
Place in serving bowl, and create a shallow well in the center of the hummus.
Add a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) of olive oil in the well. Garnish with parsley (optional).
(I can't be bothered with making wells. I put everything in the blender and then scoop it into a tupperware container.)
hummus is good on almost ANYTHING. I've had it on triscuits, wheat thins. Just about any whole wheat cracker makes for good times. Those new triangular triscuits are perfect for dipping.
hummus is da bomb. any kind of cracker works, plus carrot sticks, pepper strips, cucumber slices etc.
there's a brand of hummus at ACME called "Sabra" which is amazing. they have awesome flavors like roasted red pepper, garlic, greek olive, etc. Try it... Rico and I are addicted to the stuff.
also, the hummus plate at Iron Hill is to die for :)

When I was pregnant I ate hummus and cheese sandwiches for lunch very often. Not because I was craving weird things but b/c I wasn't eating lunchmeat and got sick of pb&j.
hummus+cheese+bread = delicious sandwich goodness
It's really good on pretzels, carrot sticks, any veggies really.
