Once again, I come to you asking for help. I think I collectively owe you a couple of bottles of Mountain Dew, or something.

Sorry, we have had a parade of these things through. They are not the robust machines that Lenovo built for IBM. They are pretty weak (case and design wise).

Skip Circuit City's (Cities?) new site. It is the old and moldy Systemax (aka TigerDirect, aka CompUSA), and has been not the world's most reputable.

I will call in to the school's supplier on Monday for you. If I can get pricing/buy it through the school, The $500 price cap hurts it some, but I can try. I can get you the teacher's discount. I will also ask around for you, see if anyone has a nicer laptop for sale.

My initial reaction looking at this computer was "that's too much machine for the money, it can't possibly be made from sturdy, dependable components."

You'd probably be better off buying less computer, made from better parts.

The parts are getting very cheap for laptops as they have official begun outselling desktops. The 3K series was originally designed to create a cheapo laptop to cater to the WallMarts crowd. The parts on the chip level are not bad, it's just how they are put together and how the case was designed that causes all the problems.

Well,.. i am not that computer savvy.. but Acer computers are pretty damn good. I got mine last,... october or september as an early christmas gift from Damon and I can say I havent had any real issues with it. His coworker also installed a 2nd hardrive just in case.. i dunno.. look into them. they are reasonable.. and one of the top selling laptops out there.. ranked #2 i believe. good luck
