The night started rough with more Sheldon betrayal and got better with Leonard saying nice things about Sheldon and Proton asking Sheldon about his paper. The night ended a little creppy with Proton asking if Penny had single grandmothers. :( It really hit me tonight how this show has way too many characters. Either that or too many lousy characters? The balance is way off. :(
I had to smile at the Professor Proton bits, simply because of Bob Newhart's delivery and charm as an actor, but since when does Penny not know how to use a hot glue gun or make simple jewelry? What about her Penny Blossom business, involving glue and glitter and rhinestones?
Once again, the show is asking us to pretend to have suffered a major head injury and to have no memory of anything that happened before six months ago.
I was almost heart-warmed by Leonard's admission that Sheldon is the smartest person he's ever met, even though he's "a little broken" and needs him, and that Leonard needs Sheldon, too. Perhaps Leonard's embarrassed refusal to answer Prof. Proton's question about WHY Leonard needs Sheldon was meant to imply that there IS no reason or that Leonard was fooling himself about that last part, but I prefer to read Leonard's discomfort as an unwillingness to dig too deeply into why Sheldon's brilliance and slight brokenness is so necessary to his own sense of self and/or well-being

I think we just have to realize we are watching a different show. It seems the timeline went AU sometime around season 3 or 4. There are just too many inexplicable thing that go on. Or Penny has been kidnapped and replaced with a surgically altered spy Penny(alaJoyce Kim) sent to keep an eye on any breakthroughs the guys make. Eh, makes as much sense as someone who had their own hair accessory business not being able to work with glue.
The Leonard admission regarding Sheldon was nice. I think you are right about the why he puts up with Sheldon, it has a lot to do with Leonard's own self worth and his need to feel needed and maybe superior.
Not a bad episode, I do always enjoy Newharts delivery. Do you think they make Sheldon extra hyper in the Proton episodes to really contrast?

Possibly! Also, perhaps, to give us an idea of what Sheldon was like when he was enthused as a little kid -- a side which Prof. Proton brings out in him as an adult. :)

THIS THIS THIS. THIIIIS.
I'm only halfway through the episode but I am furious about this.
I did the thing we're not meant to do and cracked the shits on Twitter. I didn't @ Lorre, but it was a damn near thing. I was too busy fitting the swearing into 140 characters to @ him.
The quick little scenes between Amy and Raj are always so cute. There's something so tender about way they speak to each other. I especially like how Amy calls him Rajesh. I need longer scenes between these two!!!
If only TPTB weren't so protective of the canon couples. So much chemistry and potential storylines between these non-canon couples are wasted just 'coz these fellas are being stubborn or blind.
Is it sad that I'm happy the States are running 4 episodes in front of the UK. You lot get to tell me just how bad a episode was and I watch the other side. Kind of a win, win for me :)
The rest of the episode wasn't so bad and had its moments but the whole Penny.part of the B story just makes it hard to appreciate any of the better parts.
