Is it that bad? There was an article earlier today (yesterday?) where Kaley says she hopes Penny and Leonard get married; maybe the episode combined with the article sent people scrambling for alcohol. Or brain bleach.
This episode killed my soul just a little. Part of me was thinking "Why does no one stop to think that maybe he's emotionally responding to the kiss itself (given that he's ether never kissed before or done so very rarely) rather than responding to the fact that he's kissing HER?" Given the weight that he's given to kissing he seems to rank it emotionally above sex and so he might have that reaction even more so if he was kissing someone out of passion rather than anger like say...Penny? Anyway don't mind me I'm open to lots of different POVs on the events but in the back of my mind I'm still pulling for Sheldon/Penny. The writers seem to have the mindset that sex and kissing are the only way a relationship is shown as real or meant to be but with Sheldon and Penny I don't think it's as cut and dry as that...
Like you said, the emotional response to one individual is the canon fact of the series, for example, Beverly kissed Sheldon but he never kissed her back and was completely repulsed by it; I don't remember if Penny kissed him in the lips when they were doing the war of the sexes thing but he's shown to be non responsive to her there (in a sexual kind of sense, the only one that seems to matter to the writers of the show) but they show HIM kissing Amy and getting lost in the moment, so it is shown (by them) that Amy is his deal, regardless of how different he is from his friends
( ... )
I think this could be a case of them changing how he would normally act for the sake of him and Amy happening but then they've been changing he and Penny a lot from their early selfs anyway so aw well. Anyway I didn't mean to seem like I'm bashing Amy, I just think she'd work better with someone else. It's weird how there's so much focus on 'end game' anyway with this series. It seems like so much of this type of series might do well without a true end since a lot of it doesn't have that same sort of plotline of say a How I Met Your Mother or even Friends or 3rd Rock From The Sun. I felt it worked best as a peek into geeky mindsets the mysteries of the universe show vs a 'who will marry who' one. (Not that there is anything wrong with romance)
I wasn't referring to you when I talked about bashing ;) it's just a very bad trend I've noticing for a while in this fandom. And at the end of the day, most tv shows will end up in romance, I guess this was a peek into geeks maturing into men (or at least that's what they have been trying to do: marrying Howard, making Lenny and Shamy endgame, Raj being able to talk to girls, etc), I wouldn't have liked TBBT to stay static with never changing characters but I think the current situation isn't exactly what we signed for when we started watching.
It was horrible. Jim was outstanding as expected. He played the scene like the natural romantic lead that he is. But having Amy on the receiving end was like mixing oil with water. I recoiled. I can tell the shamys are convinced, their fandom is going crazy over that kiss but to me it's nothing short of horrendous. I don't know what the writers are trying to prove, those two should never be together. What a waste! JP is incredible, sexy and magnetic. He could do the scene with a cardboard box and it would still be sexy.
The same way they are trying to prove l/p should be. What I don't understand is if they want these two couples together why do they write them so bad, I've never seen a show so set in its ways fora couple like this. Looks on the bright side after next season it'll be over. :)
I refused to watch the episode (for obvious reasons). How did the audience respond to the kiss? Were they delighted and squeeeing or were they more shocked and dismayed?
So let me get this Leonard and Penny can't even take care of a dog w/out their carelessness and always wanting to do it, yet he and the Lenny's want them to have kids? Lol.
They are the two characters that have matured the least in the series, the eternal teenagers that blow hot and cold, there hasn't been much change for them, everyone is kind of moving on and they are stuck at what they are: Leonard looking for validation via sex, Penny leading an aimless kind of life.
I really don't know what the writers are doing with them, at least with the Shamy we've seen a slow change and growth of both the characters and their relationship but with Lenny, nothing, they are still in the same point they were when the show started.
Couldn't agree more, if the writers are going to have them together at least have them grow and mature and maybe tell us why they are together, kind of messed up when you have one of the other characters question why they are together.
