Is an ultrasound by itself enough to rule out appendicitis and gallbladder problems? Pain for 19 hours so far.

When my mom and my sis-in-law had gallbladder problems, they started with ultrasound and then went to laparoscopic inspection. However, in both cases the ultrasound was equivocal.

it was gallbladder, but they had to do some weird gallbladder dye test to diagnose. ultrasound was useless...

I had an ultrasound and soon lost my gall bladder. Hope you feel better soon!

I would think an ultrasound would either a) spot gallstones, or b) spot an enlarged appendix, so I'd hope so! If it is a gallbladder problem (I had my gallbladder removed when I was 20 due to gallstones) the pain will hurt all the way through to your back; appendicitis will hurt further down in the abdomen, more localized in the right side.

Hope that helps...
