it was horribly naive for me to even begin imagining the idea that this could be brought to fruition.

I'm assuming this is about a girl, right? If that's true...here's my little tid-bit of knowledge from my experience with the opposite sex: as much as we say we learn from every relationship, every crush, everything and learn for "next time," it's really difficult to consciously bring up those warning signs or "lessons" that we've previously learned because we think that "this time" is different, that this person is different, the entire situation is different so those "lessons" and rules don't apply...but god do they
