In one of the original stories, Watson wakes up at the crack of dawn to find Sherlock standing over him, waiting for him to wake up, to see if he wants in on a mystery. When I read that, I was like, there aren't nearly enough moments like this. Then I read your prompt and remembered that's what fandom is for. I may have a fill for you, but I'm pretty slow...
Slow day at work means fast ficcing! It got a little serious, though, so I hope that's okay.It was the furtive rustling which startled John violently awake. In the dim light from downstairs, he was able to make out an ominous black figure, standing by his closet, rifling through his wardrobe

Once outside, Sherlock leaned heavily on John's cane, and pulled a cap over his distinctly non-regulation hair. They took a cab to the pub, and John followed a limping Sherlock inside. He hadn't breathed a word of his intent, and he took the corner seat at an isolated table, (plenty at this hour,) leaving John to sit with his back to the room. John never sat with his back to a room, and doing so now left him distinctly uncomfortable. Sherlock's gaze had darted past him, and returned just as quickly. His brow furrowed momentarily. "I'm sorry if you're uncomfortable, but I have to be able to see

It was nearing dawn by the time they returned to Baker Street. Sherlock had spent the cab ride furiously texting Lestrade. Once inside, John hung up his jacket and went to switch the kettle on, checking to see there was enough water. Residue from the tap had calcified along the coil and flaked off to hang, suspended, near the bottom. John regarded it absently for a moment, and decided it was harmless. He clicked the switch and the orange light popped on. He knew Sherlock had been watching him since the cab ride home, but he didn't feel like acknowledging it. He settled a tea bag into a mug and waited for the water to boil

Loved it - fasinating idea, and I don't mind the seriousnessiness by the way :) Everyone should have some seriousnessiness in their life. And this was perfect.
.... I love the picture with the mug in John's hands at the end. It feels warm and heavy; it feels like belonging. I think you captured it beautifully. And then Sherlock opening the door to ask and John's soft "no" to leaving. And Sherlock closing the door again without a fuss. You don't need big words or declarations to make your point, it's so very smooth.
<3 (And I do have a special weakness for one person keeping another one's piece of clothing :D)

So beautiful. I love how John's okay with sitting with his back to the room because he knows Sherlock is there--I've sort of got the same "must be able to see all potential assailants" thing, idk, so I know how tough that instinct can be to break. And that last image.... <3
Sherlock raiding through his wardrobe for his jumpers in the dark.
(Hehehe :D)
