For giggles.

I am always telling people that I can tell you what I ate on this day for the last four or five years. So today, I decided to go through my Fitday and actually see what I ate on May 6th in my past.

Let's start with today:

This is such a cool tool! What program/website are you using?

I use Fitday, but mostly because that is where I started and most of my custom foods are in there. The food database isn't that amazing if you are going to generally eat packaged stuff.

If you eat a lot of restaurant food or packaged stuff then I think The Daily Plate is the best food tracking database.

Nope, all free.

I posted this awhile back in wut_fit, it lists a few of the sites.

I think everyone probably knows by now that I believe tracking your food to be the number one step in losing weight/getting more fit. You need to know what you are putting in your body.

This is the one I use, but mostly out of habit. I like all the custom foods. You have to enter everything yourself, but it feels more accurate to me.

This site uses a wiki type calorie database. If you eat a lot of restaurant/packaged food it is good for you because most of it is in their database.

If you like forums and newsletters and lots of extra crap then you will like Sparkpeople. It was too busy for me.

Dude, I tried to stop eating Kashi GoLean, and I could never, ever get in enough fiber AND protein if I had to eat even the smallest unexpected thing. That stuff is basically amazing.

Mmm, the catfish sounds good...definitely on my list of things to try in the near future.

I know, right? I did hard boiled eggs and high fiber bread for two weeks because we had a ton of Easter eggs left over and it was fucking with my ratios. LOL.

I love there are other people that understand my crazy.

I will post that recipe later or send it to you by email. It's a Weight Watchers recipe. It's pretty good.

I've been using Sparkpeople to track... I log everything daily though honestly I find myself going there more for motivation than to review how my calorie intake has been.

Also, last week I started an exercise/weight loss filter (so as not to bore the rest of my flist) and I realized just now I didn't include you, and I really meant to! Your posts and your progress are some of the main things inspiring me to get in shape.

Aww, thank you! That means a lot to me, really.

Sparkpeople was a little too much for me, but I know it's a great site for people. I used to go to the forums at 3fatchicks.com too which can be okay but also a little overwhelming.

Thanks for adding me to your filter! I would hate to miss out on your progress. Please feel free to ask me anything.

I think once it sinks in that I'm really going to make all these changes and stick with them, I'll stop feeling the urge to go read the forums and remind myself of why I'm doing this. Right now, I feel sort of like someone playing a game that I don't quite know the rules to. I've literally gone my whole life eating processed/packaged foods - as a kid, we didn't have a working oven so if it couldn't be made on a griddle or a toaster oven we didn't eat it... plus, the whole fast food thing. SP is doing a good job of reminding me that there are other things I can eat.

Although I still really, really dislikealmost all vegetables.

There is a steep learning curve. You know though, processed/packaged foods are not awful. Obviously, it's better to make stuff yourself and to know exactly what is going in it. There are a lot of times, though when that is just not feasible in real life. I love Kashi and South Beach products.

When I started this thing almost five years ago, I only ate corn and carrots. You just kind of have to make yourself eat them. Veggies are good for you!

I wish I could be as disciplined as you. I'm technically on thedailyplate but I use it and then stop and use it and then stop. I think I feel guilty for always eating so damn much.

You don't really need to lose weight though, so there is much less motivation for tracking. You could probably eat healthier, but really you look great, so there is no reason to obsess like me. In fact, I'd rather you exercise instead of worrying about your food. :)

Right now I am working on eating correct portions. I slip up every single day but I am becoming more aware again of 'mindless' eating, which has long been my FRENEMY ( ... )

I do not trust myself with portions. I have a full set of measuring cups in my desk and food scale/measure everything at home. I think if I don't track I actually get weirder about it. I need the control.

Personally, I kind of needed the internal voice berating me and the guilt in order to get my ass in gear. I am not so bad now that I have been maintaining for so long. My inner voice is much nicer.

We all have to find that works for us. I think that is one of the hardest things. The same tools and tactics don't work for everyone. You have to find your right set in order to make things work.

A potato based veggie burger sounds delicious. Is it healthy?

HA! I am sure it was not cooked in a healthy or healthier fashion.

I eat a lot of soup and I am improving, but I am trying to be gradual because I do not EVER stick to 'OK TROOPS NO X Y AND Z FOR SIX MONTHS' type declarations about what/how I will eat.

My key is planning. If I know I will be eating certain things, then I am less likely to go OH I need a snack OH here is some carrot cake or OH here is a vending machine. I have started getting up regularly and planning my meals for the day... I am trying to get all the way to 'plan the week' hehe.

I seriously have no idea how I maintain my weight the way I act and eat sometimes, LOL. Meaning of course, I don't know how I manage not to gain 80 pounds/year. However, I am not comfortable with my current diet, so I am changing it.

I love soup, sadly most of it has too much sodium for me with my high blood pressure.

I do not believe in NO X Y AND Z FOR SIX MONTHS at all. I do not deprive myself of something if I really want it. I do try to make healthier versions if possible, but not always. I eat pizza on Fridays. I had ice cream cake last Saturday. You can see in my entry that I am all over the place with homemade food and take out food and alcohol. I do my best. I think that is the hardest thing to get over is the perfectionism thing. I try to eat 1200/1300 calories, 75-80 grams of protein and at least 20 grams of fiber every day. Sometimes I do it perfectly, sometimes I don't ( ... )
