I'm sort of pissed off about the sudden importance of the genderqueer movement, mainly because it focuses only on how a person looks. It's almost the fetishizing of androgyny. Or maybe it's just hipsters gone awry

You know what? The last time I called 911 (after my car accident) I had someone that was business like on the phone. It was good because I was a little bit in shock from the air bag going off that I needed someone that could just tell me what they needed me to tell them because I just had a bag explode in my face while I was driving on a freeway.
If I was in something more serious than that I would want someone business like and professional. I want someone that knows what they are doing and gets me help as soon as possible.
I really hit it off with a girl, and she's pretty "straight-looking". Not feminine per se, just not butch or anything that's outwardly gay even to other gay people. Maybe it kind of chapped my ass that she only wants to date someone who looks very "genderqueer" and I did not fit this criteria enough for her.
She's older than me by about 6 years, so it's not really a coming out thing, but I think a lot of her "gay identity" does stem from how outwardly queer her partner seems, just like when you date someone really smart, you feel smarter by proxy. Or at least I do if I can keep up.
Do you ever think that "being genderqueer" is more about not being genderqueer? Like, if you really care about it that much you're probably just trying too hard?

I have to imagine folks with gender dysphoria probably aren't too keen on all these new jacks claiming it and turning it in a fetish.
