Yom Hashoah

So, today is Yom Hashoah, which, according to Wikipedia, is an Israeli holiday (for certain values of holiday), which is kind of weird since I would think of it more as a Jewish holiday, but whatever. I also spent today listening to a lot of Yiddish music. (One of my suitemates sings on this CD - Esther Gottesman? Her grandmother is a poet.) Anyway, if you ever want to tell me what you think about Holocaust education, you should, because that's what I'm concentrating in & want to do when I grow up, i.e. writing curricula & co. It's always good to discuss.

Also, if you are in the city this summer you should let me know. I don't think i'm leaving much, except for a week in the middle of August.

It looks like I'm going to be in Chicago for most of the summer, but I'll let you know the couple of weeks when I am in town. I guess the big thing about dem churbn for me is that a thousand years of flourishing culture were reduced to a subculture in only a few years. Well, that and most of my family dying, but I occasionally get very big pangs of "mayn velt iz nishto." And then when you look at Hebrew school curricula, it's like nothing ever happened between the Bar Kochba revolt and 1933.

Am I too young to think, "Mayn velt iz nishto?"
