Braggin'

shideem's too modest to do it herself, so I'm going to brag for her. Her Dryad costume won Haven's costume contest Tuesday night.

I'm totally not surprised -- it's stunning.

Go shideem!

Yey! Only appropriate, IMHO, though I'm pleased that the lack of exposed flesh didn't deter people from voting for her.

It's an awesome costume! Not that I think there is anything wrong with exposed flesh, but I agree it's refreshing to see such a sexy and cunningly crafted outfit minus the gratutious flashing of naughty bits. I've been to costume contests that frustrated me, because in the end it didn't seem like the winner had much of a costume.

that's the thing about audience-judged costume contests... it often becomes a popularity contest. Interestingly, this year's contest didn't have a lot of scantily-clad skinny girls. Instead, she had to beat out Jesus and Edward Scissorhands.

No matter how good the Jesus or Edward Scissorhand costumes were, I'm sure they didn't hold a candle to shideem's.
Really, I'm no expert, but I've seen some interesting costume designs and ideas, and this one is truly exceptional. I'm suddenly envisioning it as the basis for an entire series of warrior woodland spirit outfits. Or that maybe these are the foot soldiers and minions of the Ents.

By the way, what was the prize?

a couple of cheap DVDs and a month of no cover.

Hmm. Not the worse prize, but paltry considering the effort that costume took. Then again, I imagine shideem cares less about the prize and more about the fun geeky technical challenges in constructing such marvelous garb.

indeedy. playing with bark and leaves is FUN! due to the lack of exposed flesh, i seriously didn't think i'd win, so it never occurred to me to be disappointed with the prize. a room full of people clapping was more than enough :)

That's a gorgeous costume. Now I want to see it in person.
