Xehanort was ready...and rather excited. He had decided to lump the 5th and 6th years together for this class, because it seemed that neither had been taught Protego Horribilis. Since he felt that the need for students to be able to shield themselves from Dark Magic was vital, he wanted to make sure that everyone had a solid mastery of the spell ( Read more... )

"Goodmorning Professor Xehanort~" came Selphie's cheary voice as she walked into the classroom and took a seet at the very front. Having decided that he was a professor she liked, she had made a point to be as early as possible for the class.

"Hello, Miss Tilmitt, how are you today?"

Xehanort strode around to the front of his desk, looking resplendent. The deep blue of his gloves and robes contrasted with the red trim, and a gold chain was around his neck. His black boots were polished and his white hair gleamed in the light.

Selphie smiled brightly at him, "I'm good~ And you, sir?" Selphie wasn't much for fashion, she generally stuck to bright colors no matter what. But she had to admit that Xehanort dressed well for a Professor.

"I'm fine, but it looks like we are nearly ready to begin."

Xehanort walked to his podium.

Reno slouched into the room. He usually wasn't this early for class, but well, some things had come up (namely Lulu) and he thought it best to brush up in ALL of his classes. Stupid Ravenclaw. Anyway, he noted that the elegant professor was talking with Selphie and since both of them were alright in his book, he didn't interrupt and instead took a seat in the back where he sprawled out and tried to get comfortable.

Fran poked her head into the classroom and looked around. Good. She was still early and there were a few seats up front where she preferred to sit. But the professor had a pretty bad reputation. And he had taken points from Ravenclaw on the first day of the semester. She stood in the doorway waffling on where to sit when she spied Reno's shock of red hair in the corner. Was it better to take her chances with the professor or sit by Reno?

Reno glanced at the doorway. Fran was standing there looking about the room. Probably deciding where to sit, he though. He wouldn't mind if she sat by him, but then again if she didn't, not a big deal. His ribs still hurt.

Fran went and sat directly in front of Reno. In situations like this it was best to stick with a familiar face.

Squall walked quietly into the classroom, taking a quick glance about. If he cared to smile about it, he would have smiled that his favorite seat was still available: all the way in the back and second from the right. He was thankful that the teacher was already engaged in conversation, for he didn't care much for greetings. He took his seat and rested his chin upon the palm of his hand as he waited for class to begin.

"Good day, students. As many of you know, I am Professor Xehanort, or Professor X for short. Some of you I have met, and one or two I have had a class with already, but there are quite a few new faces, so..." he paused, noting that Lulu had not arrived yet. He hoped she has seen the combined class announcement, but decided it was no big deal if she ran late.

"So" he continued "I will be taking a roll call." He waved his wand and the names of the students in attendance wrote themselves in the air above each students head, and Xehanort marked these down on a parchment.

"Now, today we will be working on an advanced shield charm. Who can tell use the incantation and use of a basic shield charm?"

Fran raised her hand.
"I believe professor, that you are talking about the spell Protego which creates a shield that deflects many low level spells and jinxes."

"Correct. The spell Protego is very effective at deflection of most jinxes that may be directed at you in day-to-day life. But the time may come when you need to deflect something rather more deadly. For that, we will be practicing..." here Xehanort paused "PROTEGO HORRIBILIS" he cried as a shimmering golden shield sprang to life around him, remained a few seconds, then dissipated.

"This spell is done by being truly SURE you will be safe, and combining the incantation with a sideways wand movement to cover what you want to be protected. For this class, we will foucs on a short, self-protective burst, but a skilled wizard can maintain this shield for a long period of time over a large area. There are records of wizards defending castles for hours with this spell."

He looked around.

"If there are any questions, I will take them now, otherwise, I will begin to assign pairs for practical application."
