Here The four members of Arashi were walking back from the set of their regular variety show, after filming an episode. They were happily talking about what happened earlier with the guest but as they opened the door to the greenroom, Nino suddenly grabbed Jun’s arm. The latter was surprised to see the small hand shaking so he looked up to see a horrified expression on Nino’s face. “What’s the matter Nino?” Jun asked, concerned. The other two turned their attention to the man in front of them.
“B-blood!!!”
Nino pointed to his left and all eyes followed. There laid Sho, unconscious, with the blood-stained coat stand on top of him and traces of blood staining his hair and forehead a sticky red. Ohno froze stiff while Aiba let out a loud scream. “Sho-chan!!!”
Instinctively, the youngest hastily moved towards the unconscious member to check his pulse while signalling Aiba to call for help, but to no avail. Apparently, Aiba’s knees had weakened, and the shock of seeing Sho in that state prevented him from saying anything more. Jun was troubled since he couldn’t rely on anyone to help but then Nino managed to dart out of the room and with a shaking voice, he cried for help. Ohno, on the other hand, remained frozen near the door.
15 minutes later, their manager entered, followed by the rescue team carrying a stretcher, and they lifted Sho out of the room into the ambulance. Only the manager went along to the hospital since the rest of the members were obviously still mentally shaken.
The three seemed to have calmed down half an hour later but no one dared to speak. Obviously trying to sort out their thoughts, they all carried a very confused expression. The one affected the most by this was Ohno, as the shock still hasn’t left him. If Nino didn’t force him to sit down on the couch, he would have remained standing at the entrance. One could immediately tell what was on their minds. Why is Sho-chan here? What happened to him? Why was he bleeding? Isn’t he supposed to be in Europe? Yes, Sho was supposed to be in Europe to cover an international event. But for some unknown reason, he was there, at the greenroom, bleeding and unconscious.
The silence was finally broken when Jun’s phone rang. They all stood up in reflex and went near Jun as he nervously answered the call and then turned the loudspeaker on.
“Matsumoto-kun?” said a voice at the other end of the line that belonged to their manager. “Hai?” together with Jun’s reply, Nino and Aiba couldn’t help but ask a lot of questions,
“How’s Sho-chan?”
“Is he okay?”
“What happened to him?”
”What did the doctor say?”
Jun motioned to stop the two from yelling out all of their questions and turned to look at Ohno who was still very quiet. Noticing this, Nino gently patted their leader on the back while whispering, “It’s okay Leader, Sho-chan’s gonna be fine.”
“That’s right, don’t worry, the doctor said the injury wasn’t that deep so there’s no need to fret.” said their manager.
Upon hearing this, all of them sighed in relief and the anxious look was wiped off of Ohno’s face. “Is he awake? Can we go see him now?” asked Jun. “I asked the doctor but he said you should visit him tomorrow since he’s still unconscious.” Ohno stood up and finally spoke, but in protest, “Eh? He hasn’t woken up yet? I thought you said he’s okay?” Aiba put his hand on their leader’s shoulder while looking intently at Jun, the latter seemed to have understood and said, “He’s just sleeping right? Don’t worry.”
“Matsumoto-kun…” Hearing the change in the manner of the voice on the other end, Jun grabbed his phone and turned off the loudspeaker. Without letting Ohno notice, he gave Nino and Aiba a certain look as he was leaving the room, and the two nodded in reply.
“In the meantime, let’s go to my apartment.” Nino suggested, and Ohno gave him a questioning look. “… because, I don’t think we’ll be able to concentrate on work until we see Sho-chan... and besides I can’t calm down if I’m alone.” he added. Aiba agreed, saying, “Me too. Let’s stay together. I’ll send Jun-kun a message. Let’s go.” Ohno wasn’t able to refuse because he knew he shouldn’t be alone too.
Jun headed to the hospital as per the manager’s instructions. The manager knew he’s the most reliable member when it comes to things like emergencies so he was trusted enough to be allowed a visit. When he got there, the manager was waiting outside Sho’s room. “Matsumoto-kun, do you know why Sakurai-kun is back?” asked their manager. Jun didn’t know for sure but he had a faint idea as to why. “We weren’t informed. We were just shocked to see him there. Anyway, what happened? What did the doctor say?”
The door to Sho’s room suddenly slid open, and standing there was Sho. “Hey, I told you not to get up yet!” reprimanded their manager. Jun was stunned and rushed to Sho’s side. The older man directed a naughty smile to their manager as he said, “I’m fine, why are you overreacting?” The youngest was relieved yet very confused. “Are you okay? How long have you been awake? What happened to you?” he asked as he was walking Sho towards the hospital bed.
As Sho lied down, he said, “Listen, listen~ Actually-” the manager cut him off, “That was just him being stupid.” The oldest man carefully explained the situation and Jun couldn’t help but let out a loud, annoyed, “HAH?! Are you stupid?!” looking at Sho in disbelief. Sho, on the other hand, just stuck his tongue out comically.
At Nino’s apartment, all three of them were waiting for Jun to arrive but then Jun called, apologizing that he won’t be able to sleep over because he needed to help reschedule the remaining appointments that they couldn’t go to earlier.
After making sure the two older members have fallen asleep, Nino went outside and gave Jun a call, and when he answered, Nino immediately said, “Spit it out or I’ll strangle you! What’s going on?” “Huh? I told you I’m rescheduling our appointments.” Jun tried to act innocent but failed to deceive the brat’s ears. “You can’t fool me. What happened to Sho-chan? What are you hiding?” Nino retorted. Jun sighed and gave in. “Don’t tell anyone okay?” and when Nino agreed, he filled him in with the details, and the slighter man’s lips curved to an evil grin.
The next day, Nino cheerfully woke the other two up as he said, “Hey, Sho-chan is awake! Let’s go and visit him now.” Ohno’s eyes gleamed happily and Aiba couldn’t help but shout in reply, “Really?! Let’s go!!!”
They quickly dressed and went outside to Nino’s car. As Aiba was about to sit in the driver’s seat, Nino pulled him back and teased, “You’re too excited. I’m young and I don’t wanna die yet so I’ll drive!” Aiba understandingly agreed, “I am, aren’t I? Okay, go ahead,” and settled on sitting in the passenger’s seat while Ohno happily sat in the back.
Half an hour had passed and Aiba realised that something was off. “Hey Nino-chan, Sho-chan is in Keio University Hospital right? I think you’re going the wrong way…” Ohno stared quizzically at Nino through the rear view mirror. Nino smirked and replied, “I never said we’re going to the hospital~” “EH?!” Aiba shouted. “Hey, don’t scream! You’ll distract me!” Then, Ohno spoke for the first time that day, with a very serious tone. “Nino, what are you trying to pull?” but the younger man just shrugged him off and said, “Oh, we’re here.”
The two looked up, their eyes scanning the whole area. Ohno was really confused and as he was about to speak, Aiba voiced out what was on his mind, “Are? Isn’t this Leader’s apartment?” Getting out of the car, Nino strode up the stairs eagerly whilst Ohno and Aiba followed, perplexed. They stopped and Nino rang the doorbell to Ohno’s apartment. The other two were astonished to see Jun open the door. “Welcome!” said Jun cheerfully. They were still very confused and there were a lot of questions on their minds but they opted to stay silent, thinking they’d eventually hear an explanation.
As they entered the living room, Ohno was surprised to see the room decorated with colourful party balloons and a banner hanging on the wall across him. The banner was painted sloppily with the words, “Happy Birthday Satoshi-kun <3” and just beneath it, was a smiling Sho seated on the floor, with a bandaged head and a bouquet of flowers in his hands. Sho stood up, aided by Jun, and carefully walked towards the speechless leader. “Happy Birthday, Satoshi-kun!” Sho exclaimed, handing him the bouquet. Aiba said loudly, “AH! I forgot! Happy Birthday, Leader!” Nino put his hand on Aiba’s mouth to keep him from disturbing the moment. Sho just chuckled and added, “You forgot too, didn’t you?”
Ohno, finally finding his voice, questioned the injured man in front of him, “Wait a minute! What happened to you yesterday?! I was worried sick about you! Shouldn’t you be resting? Anyway, you are supposed to be in Europe!” The other three were surprised to hear the barrage of words flowing from their leader’s mouth. They’ve always known that Ohno is a man of few words so they didn’t think they’d ever hear this much coming out of him.
Sho laughed and reached out to touch Ohno lightly on the cheek as he sincerely apologized, “I’m sorry for making you worry.” One could see Ohno’s heart melting at the gesture.
Aiba was touched to see the scene and let out a drawling “Aww~” whilst Jun and Nino couldn’t keep quiet any longer. They just had to tell them the ridiculous explanation regarding yesterday’s incident. But before doing so, they asked everyone to take a seat and Jun served them drinks.
Jun started talking, looking at Ohno who was then clinging on to Sho’s shirt. “This person is unbelievable! I went to the hospital yesterday to talk to the manager and then this guy,” Jun pointed to Sho, “this guy was standing on the doorway, grinning from ear to ear as if nothing had happened!” Sho started laughing and said, “It’s not like it was anything serious, right?” Jun glared at him and replied, “We were dead worried about you, you know! Anyway, this was what happened at the hospital last night.”
Jun went on to explain the conversation with Sho and their manager. Their manager had said, “He came back here to surprise Ohno-kun for his birthday. It’s tomorrow isn’t it? From the airport, he went straight to Ohno-kun’s apartment to decorate.” Properly listening, Jun said, “Eh? Then why were you at the greenroom?” Sho chuckled and replied, “I was going to leave a note for Satoshi-kun there but I felt a bit sleepy so when I wobbled my way to the desk, I stumbled and fell. I grabbed the coat stand but I pulled it too hard so it fell on me. Ahaha... And well, that’s how I got my injury.” “It hit you that hard it knocked you unconscious?!” asked Jun, still a bit worried. “No, actually, I was too tired to stand up and I fell asleep just like that. I haven’t slept for 2 days straight so I didn’t wake up instantly.” The younger man, after absorbing every detail that he heard, couldn’t help but let out a loud, annoyed, “HAH?! Are you stupid?!” looking at Sho in disbelief. Sho, on the other hand, just stuck out his tongue comically.
After Jun finished explaining, Ohno was still trying to comprehend what Jun had said. Aiba then turned to Nino and asked, “Then, how did Nino-chan find out?”
This time, Nino started talking. “I called Jun when I was sure the two of you were asleep. You couldn’t tell but, Jun was obviously hiding something.” Jun, trying to avoid eye contact with Nino, said, “This brat is scary… He was threatening to strangle me. Ugh.” “Shut up, Jun. Anyway, he filled me in with the details and then told me that Sho-chan had him running errands the whole night, asking him to get stuff he wasn’t able to prepare for today. He also told me to head directly here when you guys wake up.”
Aiba was grinning happily while Ohno was dumbfounded. “What about work? Europe?” Ohno asked, looking up at Sho. ““Don’t worry. I asked for permission from the higher ups to let me go back here for awhile but.. I have to go back the day after tomorrow. I just really wanted to be here with you for your birthday.” Ohno felt his heart beating fast as the two of them stared affectionately at each other, their faces blushing and their eyes sparkling. It was the perfect moment to make out, if not for Aiba staring intently at them and the other two, pretending to clear their throats. Sho, with an annoyed tone, said, “I think this is the right moment for the three of you to go away~” but Nino and Jun looked at each other then stood up and went near them, Nino put his hands on Ohno’s shoulder and Jun did the same for Sho, “One, two~” they counted in chorus, then at three, pulled the couple away from each other. “HEY!” Sho shouted, but the rest of them just laughed.
Ohno broke away from Nino’s tight hold and ran towards Sho, effectively pushing Jun away, and leaned in to Sho for a quick kiss on Sho’s lips, leaving the latter shocked. Then, he turned to the three others, “I’m the leader and today’s my birthday, so all of you, out! I wanna spend today with Sho-kun!”
“Don’t just claim the title when it’s convenient!” Nino shouted as the three of them were bundled out of the door.
