Oh my God, I love this so, so much. Just, AUGH. There is really not enough fic out there that explores Joe's relationship with Miley (and Nick, by association), and how they have that different bond that really could be something but at the same time can't, for so many reasons (even if they both have an awareness of it). And you really captured that here, in the most heartbreakingly quiet way.

He still can’t help wondering if this was Miley’s first proper break up, too.
