Some people think that Americans have an odd relationship with food. Those people are right.

In Scotland, they serve things like fried Mars Bars and fried pizza all over the place. It's not just us!

Well, that was, um, interesting... and nauseating. Thanks for the link but no thanks for the Billy Joel earworm :->

They must've gotten that from the Dutch ;-) Here in Europe the Dutch are the frymasters, and while I like fried foods, also deep-fried foods - what's going on here is crazy!
It's currently season for "oil balls" to be sold everywhere, deep-fried dough balls covered in sugar.

There's a strong association here between Dutch food and deep frying, but for no good reason. Americans love Dutch funnel cakes, which most of us think are from the Netherlands but which are actually a specialty of the Pennsylvania Dutch, who trace their roots to Germany. :)

Does any culture have a normal relationship with food?

:) If you can't talk to the culture, how do you know?

Depends on how you define normal. I guess what impresses me here is the "because we can" attitude.
