Everyone, please be careful of the dangers of mistletoe. First, as it turns out, I've heard it's inedible. Even plants are inedible sometimes. Second, it is a trap. If you didn't know, mistletoe means "I will kiss you now" in I think some European language. So whenever two people stand under it, they kiss.

It's a shame Neechan isn't here.Women, ( Read more... )

I think the tradition has something to do with Norse mythology...

There's more than just two worlds to consider.

There are a lot of people here who are from Earth... but from places and dates that don't match up to what I know of Earth. And there are a couple people here who's "Earth" is so different from mine that it doesn't match up at all. Put basically, there are as many different worlds as there are possibilities.

The weird thing about this place is that... everyone is from a different world unless they knew one another beforehand. That's my theory. It could be wrong. But I think it goes for at least half of us. I know Subaru-san from home, so Subaru-san is from my world. I don't know Shinji from home, so he's from a different world. He knows Iori-kun from home, so they're from the same world. But Shinji's other friends, maybe not. That doesn't make a lot of sense when I say it out loud... do you maybe understand anyway? You seem smarter than me, so...

I knew that.

Yes. And some are pretty similar. There are people I've met who speak Japanese, but have never heard of Japan. So then it's not necessarily Greek on the signs - maybe the same language by a different name, if languages apparently transcend worlds.

Although to be honest, I don't want to think about how a language develops in the same way like that. The religion thing confuses me a lot more... or really, if it was just one thing that overlaps, that would be one thing, but little details like furniture, religion, the type of buildings...

That's all pretty much what we can find at home. But then stuff like the trees, the moons, the monsters - I can see how Earth would develop in different ways, but this is stuff that just doesn't exist there, right?

No, it doesn't, but we're familiar with the concepts, right? We all know what monsters are, even though they may not exist where we're from. Maybe our worlds are somehow linked to this one? Maybe they all draw something from each other, somehow?

Or this is Mars...?

I still don't think it's Mars, -

Uh... I don't know your name. Sorry. I'm Fujioka Haruhi.

Arisugawa Sorata. First names are fine, since there's no need to be formal in a place like this. Or "Sora," if you want.

Then Haruhi is fine too, Sorata.

It's nice to meet you formally.

[...] By the way, may I ask you a rude question?

You too. It's easy to forget manners when not talking in person.

Um... I guess you can, if you really need to. I may not answer, though.

You're real pretty from what I can tell and I'm sure the picture doesn't do you justice, but are you a guy or a girl?

It was mostly rhetorical...
