This follows a previous entry. You can find it here: http://shoelace009.livejournal.com/102324.html .
I think it is better if you read the entry but you don't have to in order to get it.

I read both, and the era of the story isn't completely clear to me in either. A lot of the time it feels very early. This one could pass as early as the 12th century--but for the movie referance. The other one has a vaguely 1940s feel--though... maybe it's ALL in my head.

Grin.

Yeah I'm not sure about what the era is. I haven't even really thought about it. Ths was just unplanned free writing centered around the image I described. You make a great point though and if I use it the era will be defined when it's put into a story.

But that is a great point and I appreciate that you brought it to my attention. It's certainly an important issue. What era do you think would be most effective?

That really depends more on you and what you're passionate about. If it were me, I'd go 14th century China--however if someone who knew nothing about 14th century china wrote it in that setting, it probably wouldn't be great.

Meanwhile, my contemporary settings can be a bit flat. But if they’re your strength, then your modern day setting would be better than mine.

Most of my strengths in terms of familiarity with a historical background involve the Roman Empire or the history of ancient Rome. But I don't think that would work for what I am trying to do so I'll probably work from a more contemporary setting.

That is of course if I decide to continue it. I go back to school Sunday so I don't know if I will.
