Is it just me?

Or does the world often seem more unkind these days... more demanding about respect and correctness? Yes in past ages there was intolerance and a lot of bad things happening in terms of racism, discrimination, and intolerance.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a bunch of people jump on me for supporting the Komen cause. I didn't say whether I agreed with their political ideals or not, but it was like how dare I support them if they remove funding from Planned Parenthood? What if I'm not a supporter of Planned Parenthood? No one considered that as a possibility, and I didn't bring it up because I know things would have been even worse. And to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about Planned Parenthood. I only knew that even with 25% of donations going towards cancer research from Komen donations that was 25% that would otherwise be available if they didn't exist.

I just thought-- it was their money. Either give money to them or don't. I'm not a big fan of telling any group or people how they have to spend their money. And yes, I agree-- if you give to them, you should want it to go to cancer research. The argument though is that the 25% was going towards cancer prevention or detection which was just as good for saving lives.

Yeah, I'm kind of the same opinion. Don't like what they are doing, then don't give money to them. I didn't like tearing down the cause though probably because my mom and aunt both are breast cancer survivors.

Is it possible that respecting others is mutually exclusive with our recent culture of self-esteem/everyone's a winner?

just asking.

I hadn't thought of that. I hope not. I hope we can learn good sportsmanship. In sports, there's always a loser. But there's a respect after the game... maybe not during... but usually afterwards of the opponents skill. If they weren't skilled, then the win wasn't worth it. And if you win against a lesser opponent, you'd have better have done it honorably.
