Slightly random question... I have a lot of stuff - like old school reports, photographs, letters, cards, etc - from over the years that I definitely want to keep. But I don't really know how to store. What do you do with your stuff of this sort?

We have a filing cabinet with all that kind of stuff in - one drawer for each of us. Every now and then, I check to see whether I really still want everything, and I lose a few items each time.

I tend to stick them in archive boxes. These were up the loft until recently but had to be extracted and I am now slowly getting around to sorting them, when not in Wendover.

It depends why I want to keep it - there are some things I simply want to store, almost as a reference archive of my life. These are in boxes in vaguely date order, and each box has a vague list of contents. There are other things that I want to be reminded of more frequently (eg letters, photos). These are in photo albums, ringbinders and other such bookmaking things, and sit on my shelves so that I can flip through them easily. If I had more time, there are probably letters I would have properly bound.

I file them in envelopes which I then keep in box-files. These boxfiles are stored in archive files when they go out of immediate circulation.

Most of mine's at my dad's now. But when I had everything in my old house I used to keep it in a chest of drawers that was obscured by the sofa (we used the chest of drawers mostly as a side-table) so I could look at it if I wanted by moving furniture, but it wasn't readily accessible for every day.
