Shreena's Question Of the Day..

If a child asked you "Do you believe in God?" and you knew that you held a view contrary to their parents, how would you answer their question and why?

Not arising from a real life situation, just spotted a discussion of it elsewhere.

I would try to figure out whether the question was about me or about God, from context and stuff.

If it was about me, I would answer the question honestly and briefly, and perhaps steer the discussion to epistemology (since my work touches on epistemological development in children).

If it was about God, I would ask what they think (without answering myself) and focus the conversation around that.

In either case, I would try and get them to explore what they thought more than explaining what I thought - particularly if I was in any kind of authority position.

Answers above may vary if I have specific professional duties, but not by much.
