most of the confusion comes from us thinking of them as girls, the rest of the confusion comes from us thinking that their thinking and behavior can be generalized. essentially chicks are human beings, each with variying strengths and weaknesses - like men, also having a history of experiences that helps form their (relative)ideas about the way they think the universe should work and does work - just like guys.
individually they form their own ideas of what it means to be a female from society and their own biology (that's why most of them dress 'feminine' and want to be mothers some day)
beyond this, I'd suggest picking up the book Please Understand Me 2, by David Keirsey, PhD. the differences aren't so biological as they are specific unalterable functions of their hearts-n-minds
