...and I'm still working on drawings for this show. I've been saying that I'm putting my art career on hiatus after this, but I really like this piece, so now I'm feeling a little bit sad about this being my last show for a while. I've reached the 50-page mark with the novel I'm writing, which I celebrated by having some sushi tonight. Though this is still 14,000 words of the first draft of a novel that's going to be about 100,000 words, so the celebration is brief ( Read more... )

Ok, I'm back from my writer's conference, which was all in all both a really intense and highly beneficial experience. It demystified a lot of the process for me, and I also got to meet lots of cool and interesting people. I'm reading one of them, Alix Ohlin, right now. Just to give people here a sample of some of the overacademized drivel I end up writing in preparation for shows... though this artist statement isn't public.... it's just for the benefit of the curator so she can write her catalog essay. My writing is usually tighter though in these contexts typically just as pretentious.
