i'm sure his Mother appreciated the book you put together for her...i know throughout the years, when i have lost loved ones, i find comfort in other people's stories about them, their reflections... it lets me know that i wasn't the only person who loved them, and that we are all going through it together and can help each other along the way.
my deepest sympathy.
he had a wonderful, loving friend in you. we all do. and we are here for you.
nothing makes it easier - but time let's you get used to it a little. I remember the movie "Torch Song Trilogy" - the mother in the movie says that getting used to the loss of a loved one is like wearing glasses, you get used to it - but you NEVER forget they're there.
Grieving is a process, as you well know, but I wouldn't say it ever gets easier. The pain just seems to settle in a little spot in your head, where the two of you can visit from time to time. The hole in your heart will always be there, you will always wonder what would you and he be doing now, if he were still alive. That never goes away.
What happens is that you gradually realize that you are still alive, and that you have an obligation to get up in the morning, to keep breathing, to be you.
I'm sorry for the pain you're going through, I do know how it feels and I wouldn't wish that sort of pain on anyone. Take care of yourself, ok?
I forgot to tell you this - talk to him. Tell him how you feel, and later, tell him about what's going on in your life. Ask him for advice. . . whatever. Talk to him as you always have.
Your memory of him, and your efforts to keep him alive in your heart, is the source of his immortality.
